Barcelona’s home record faces a fresh test from Deportivo Alaves

Barcelona will look to extend their impressive home form when they host Deportivo Alaves at Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday, 31 October 2026, in the 11th round of the Spanish league.

The visitors, however, arrive with a recent reminder that they can unsettle their more illustrious opponents. Deportivo Alaves ended Barcelona’s 16-match unbeaten run against them in the competition by winning 1-0 last May.

According to Opta, that result was only the second occasion in the history of the fixture on which Barcelona have lost consecutive Spanish league matches against Deportivo Alaves. The previous instance came between 1999 and 2000.

Barcelona had won 14 and drawn two of the 16 league meetings before that defeat, underlining the scale of the result. Yet the overall record at Barcelona remains heavily in the home side’s favour, with Deportivo Alaves failing to win in their past eight league visits. They have drawn once and lost seven times during that run.

Their most recent victory at Barcelona came in September 2016, when they won 2-1. Mauricio Pellegrino was Deportivo Alaves manager that day, while Luis Enrique was in charge of the hosts.

Barcelona’s attacking numbers at home provide another indication of the challenge facing the visitors. They have scored in each of their last 36 home matches in the Spanish league, finding the net 108 times.

That is their longest scoring run in home league games since 2014, when they scored in 56 consecutive matches and registered 193 goals.

Deportivo Alaves are struggling for form ahead of the fixture. They have gone six Spanish league matches without a victory, recording two draws and four defeats. A seventh game without a win would be their longest such sequence since January 2025, when they endured a run of seven matches comprising four draws and three losses.

The contrast between the teams is also visible in their approach to possession. Barcelona lead the Spanish league in sequences of at least 10 open-play passes during the 2026-2027 season, having produced 245 such moves.

Deportivo Alaves have managed only 54, placing them among the competition’s least prolific teams in that category. Only Getafe, with 33 sequences, and Sevilla, with 51, have recorded fewer.

Barcelona have also spent less time behind on the scoreboard than any other team in the league this season, trailing for just 43 minutes. They are one of five sides yet to drop a point after taking the lead, alongside Levante, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.

The statistics point to another strong home performance from Barcelona, but Deportivo Alaves’ victory in May means the hosts cannot take their historical advantage for granted.
