CAF confirms permanent appointment of Samson Adamu as General Secretary
Samson Adamu has been appointed as the new General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following confirmation by the organisation’s Executive Committee.
Adamu’s appointment was approved during an EXCO meeting this week, having served as the governing body’s acting General Secretary since March 2026.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the decision came after a competitive recruitment exercise, which involved advertising the position and interviewing several prospective candidates.
The Nigerian administrator brings significant experience to the position, having been part of CAF’s administrative structure since 2018 when he joined as Director of Competitions.
He subsequently took up responsibilities as Director of Tournaments and Events, where he was involved in coordinating and overseeing several major football competitions organised by the continental governing body.
His experience includes playing an important administrative role in the organisation of CAF’s flagship competition, the Africa Cup of Nations, alongside other major tournaments on the continent.
Adamu is also a graduate of the FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, an academic qualification that has further strengthened his background in football administration.
In his new capacity, he will be responsible for overseeing CAF’s daily operations, coordinating its administrative activities and helping the organisation execute its long-term development objectives.
His confirmation marks a new chapter in his career at CAF, where his familiarity with the institution and experience in tournament management are expected to feature prominently in his leadership responsibilities.
