PSG open talks over Achraf Hakimi contract extension but Moroccan delays negotiations
Paris Saint-Germain are looking to secure Achraf Hakimi’s long-term future, but the club have encountered an initial delay in their efforts to negotiate a new contract with the Moroccan defender.
According to L’Equipe, PSG have approached the 27-year-old right-back and his representatives in recent weeks to discuss the possibility of extending his current agreement.
However, the initial discussions have not progressed as the Parisian club would have hoped, with Hakimi and his representatives preferring to delay negotiations.
The Moroccan international, whose current contract runs until June 2029, believes there is still sufficient time before committing to another extension, particularly considering that his previous renewal was signed relatively recently.
Despite the delay, there is currently no indication of a fundamental disagreement between the two parties or an outright refusal from the defender to continue at the Parc des Princes.
PSG are keen to retain Hakimi, who has become an influential figure under Luis Enrique and an important component of the club’s long-term sporting project.
His importance was further demonstrated on Friday night when he scored a hat-trick and provided two assists in PSG’s emphatic 5-1 victory over Le Havre in Ligue 1.
The performance once again highlighted his value to the French champions and strengthened the club’s desire to secure his services for additional years.
