Pim Verbeeck, who has been the sports director in Morocco since 2010, expressed satisfaction with his role in elevating youth football in the country. The Dutch technician has played a key role in upgrading the U17, U19, and U23 teams. Due to his success in this role, he is now considered a potential candidate for the position of the next coach of the Atlas Lions, the senior national football team of Morocco.
Verbeeck, in an interview with Mountakhab.net, highlighted the positive aspects of his mission, stating that he has been in Morocco for three years and feels very good there. He expressed satisfaction with the results achieved with the players and emphasized his desire to take charge of the A selection.
With the recent challenges faced by the Atlas Lions, including elimination in the World Cup qualifiers and a group stage exit in the African Cup of Nations, the position of the current coach, Rachid Taoussi, is reportedly under threat. Verbeeck expressed his interest in coaching the A team, considering it his goal after the end of his current contract. However, he mentioned that if the Federation is not interested in his services as the coach of the A team, he would be willing to leave.
Verbeeck highlighted his knowledge of Moroccan football, including the players, mentality, and the Botola league. He pointed out that many players from the A team went through the Olympic team under his responsibility, making him a potential candidate for the coaching position. The report suggests that the FRMF (Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football) would appoint the coach for the Atlas Lions.
