Yaya Touré is taking a positive and inclusive stance in response to the racist behavior he faced during the match between CSKA Moscow and Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League. The midfielder, rather than seeking revenge, is urging English supporters to maintain a welcoming atmosphere during the return match against the Russian club.
On his Twitter account, the Ivorian international stated, “I want fans to show our guests how we welcome strangers. Let’s show the whole world why our sky is blue, I know I can count on you.”
While Touré is calling for a warm and hospitable reception, there is awareness that English supporters can sometimes exhibit intense behavior. It remains to be seen whether his message will resonate and contribute to a positive and respectful environment during the return match.
It’s worth noting that racist chants against the Ivorian community led to the suspension of part of CSKA Moscow’s stands as a consequence.
