Roma linked with Benfica right-back Daniel Banjaqui
Portugal and Guinea-Bissau defender Daniel Banjaqui is being linked with a move from Benfica to Roma in Serie A.
The 18-year-old right-back has established himself in Benfica’s senior set-up this season after joining the first team from Benfica B in July. He has made two Liga Portugal appearances and featured once in the Europa League, with 171 league minutes and 90 minutes in Europe.
Banjaqui has also started all three of Benfica B’s Liga Portugal 2 matches this campaign, playing 250 minutes in total. He has not scored or assisted in those appearances.
The defender is valued at €10m and has a contract with Benfica until 30 June 2031, meaning any potential move to Roma would involve negotiations with the Portuguese club rather than a free transfer.
Born in Lisbon, Banjaqui joined Benfica’s youth system from Real Formacao in 2018 and progressed through the club’s academy before moving to Benfica B in 2025. He returned to the senior squad at the start of the current season.
Banjaqui was part of the Portugal Under-17 side that won the 2025 Under-17 World Cup and European Under-17 Championship. His international honours came before his first campaign as a regular senior-team option at Benfica.
The reported interest from Roma comes as Banjaqui continues to develop within Benfica’s first-team structure, with the player remaining under contract at the Estadio da Luz until 2031.
