Jordan Torunarigha a doubt for Hamburg’s clash against Paderborn
Hamburger SV defender Jordan Torunarigha is a doubt for Saturday’s Bundesliga away fixture against SC Paderborn 07 after experiencing discomfort during Thursday’s training session.
The 29-year-old centre-back was withdrawn from the session as a precaution, with head coach Merlin Polzin unwilling to risk aggravating the problem ahead of the weekend encounter.
“Jordan felt something at the beginning today, and we decided that there was no need to take a risk,” Polzin explained during his pre-match press conference.
The HSV coach did not provide a specific diagnosis or indicate that the issue was a serious injury, leaving the defender’s availability uncertain.
Torunarigha has recently struggled to secure a regular starting place, meaning his potential absence may not immediately affect Hamburg’s first-choice lineup. However, his fitness could become more significant if Nicolás Capaldo is also unavailable after experiencing minor discomfort.
The defensive situation could therefore force Polzin to reassess his options ahead of the trip to Paderborn.
A final decision on Torunarigha’s involvement is expected after Friday’s final training session. Polzin has made it clear that only players capable of completing training without restrictions will be considered for selection.
Hamburg will hope the precautionary measure proves sufficient to keep the defender available, but his participation remains uncertain until the club completes its final preparations for Saturday’s match.
