Victor Osimhen was named Man of the Match after helping Galatasaray beat his former club Lille 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles striker scored Galatasaray’s fourth goal after the Turkish side had fallen 2-1 behind to the Ligue 1 team in the first half.
The victory was Galatasaray’s first of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign. It moved them to 23rd in the table, level on points with Osimhen’s former club Napoli, who are 22nd.
Osimhen, 27, said the result was built on a collective performance and admitted he was pleased to leave Stade Pierre-Mauroy with three points.
“I love this stadium. There is an incredible fan base,” Osimhen told the media after the match.
“We played a difficult match. I am very happy for our team, we won. I wish Lille success for the next matches. Lille players are very tough players.
“They also took the lead. We managed to win the match with the team. I’m happy we got the three points.”
Osimhen spent one season with Lille before joining Serie A side Napoli in 2020. He scored 18 goals and supplied six assists in 38 appearances for the French club.
The forward has made eight appearances for Galatasaray this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.
His goal against Lille completed a comeback for Galatasaray after the visitors had taken the lead during the opening half. Osimhen’s contribution ensured the home side secured a four-goal return and ended the match with a two-goal advantage.
The result also placed Galatasaray above Napoli in the Champions League standings, although the two clubs have the same number of points. Napoli remain in 22nd position, with Galatasaray one place below them in 23rd.
Osimhen’s performance came against the club where he began his European career at senior level. During his only season at Lille, he registered 18 goals and six assists across 38 matches before completing his move to Napoli in 2020.
The striker’s current record for Galatasaray is seven goals and three assists from eight outings this season, while the win gives the club an important first success in their 2026/27 Champions League campaign.
