Paris Saint-Germain press ahead with Kvaratskhelia contract negotiations after knee injury

Paris Saint-Germain have maintained their plans to extend Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract despite the serious knee injury that is expected to keep the forward out for several months.

The Georgia international suffered a tear to the cruciate ligament in his right knee during Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Kvaratskhelia, who is regarded as a candidate to win the Ballon d’Or, is expected to undergo surgery within the next 10 days.

His injury prompted questions over whether Paris Saint-Germain would reconsider negotiations over a new deal. However, French network RMC reports that the club’s position has not changed and discussions with the player are continuing.

Kvaratskhelia’s current contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs until the summer of 2029. The club had already decided to extend the agreement in an effort to protect the player from interest from other clubs.

According to RMC, the two sides have begun talks over a further three-year contract, which would keep Kvaratskhelia at Paris Saint-Germain until 2032.

The main issue still to be settled is the salary package. Despite the setback suffered by the 2025 Ballon d’Or candidate, Paris Saint-Germain officials remain committed to reaching an agreement with the Georgian forward.

Kvaratskhelia will now face a period of recovery following the injury sustained against Barcelona, but his absence has not altered the club’s approach to the proposed contract extension.
