Declan Rice earns Arsenal a point as Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich milestone is overshadowed

Declan Rice scored an 82nd-minute equaliser as Arsenal drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, denying Harry Kane a winning celebration after the England captain reached 58 Champions League goals.

The result leaves Arsenal seventh in the league phase with seven points, while Bayern Munich move to five points and sit 14th.

Bayern took the lead through Alphonso Davies and Kane, who converted a 61st-minute penalty. Arsenal’s goals came from Eberechi Eze and Rice.

Kane’s penalty moved him beyond former Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller in the competition’s all-time scoring list. He is now 10th in the Champions League’s historical rankings.

Arsenal suffered an early setback when Bukayo Saka went off injured in the ninth minute, with Eze replacing him. The substitute put the visitors ahead in the 25th minute after going through one-on-one with Manuel Neuer.

The assistant referee initially raised the flag for offside, but a video review confirmed the goal, showing that Bayern defender Josip Stanisic had played Eze onside.

Bayern responded 10 minutes later. Kane released Davies with an excellent pass and the full-back finished past David Raya to make it 1-1.

Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa was booked for a heavy challenge on Kane, while Bayern midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic almost gifted Arsenal a second goal when the ball deflected off his head and passed narrowly wide, with Riccardo Calafiori attempting to reach it.

Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich missed the match following the death of his father.

Neuer denied Bruno Guimaraes with an impressive save early in the second half, with the ball then striking the post. Ismail Sabiri later missed a clear opportunity after racing through on goal, although the referee had already ruled him offside.

Bayern were awarded a penalty in the 59th minute when the ball struck Jurrien Timber’s hand as he blocked Kane’s effort. Kane converted two minutes later to restore the hosts’ advantage.

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany introduced Luis Diaz and Karl for Ismail Sabiri and Serge Gnabry. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta responded by sending on Viktor Gyokeres and Lewis-Skelly for Kai Havertz and Bruno Guimaraes.

Rice then produced a powerful finish from inside the area to level the match in the 82nd minute.

Arteta replaced Martin Odegaard with Mikel Merino, while Bayern brought on Brajan Gruda for Davies. Diaz went off injured in the 90th minute and was replaced by Sabouko Ndiaye.

Neuer prevented Arsenal from completing a late comeback in stoppage time, saving a fierce shot from Timber as the match ended 2-2.

Bayern Munich’s starting XI was Manuel Neuer, Josip Stanisic, Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, Tom Bischof, Konrad Laimer, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Alphonso Davies, Ismail Sabiri, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane.

Arsenal began with David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori, Ezri Konsa, Gabriel Magalhaes, Jurrien Timber, Bruno Guimaraes, Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz.
