LASK stun Sporting CP with comeback win in Portugal

LASK came from behind to beat Sporting CP 3-2 away from home in the third matchday of the UEFA Champions League.

The Austrian side recovered from conceding an early goal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade before completing a second-half turnaround. The result represents a significant setback for Sporting CP, who were unable to hold on after taking the lead on home soil.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring for the Portuguese club in the fifth minute, but LASK responded 10 minutes later through Christoph Lang.

The two sides went into half-time level at 1-1, leaving the match finely poised after an evenly contested opening period.

LASK moved in front for the first time in the 63rd minute when Sasa Kalajdzic found the net. The visitors then extended their advantage five minutes later, with Krystof Danek making it 3-1.

Sporting CP continued to push for a way back into the game and were awarded a late penalty in the 89th minute. Luis Suarez converted from the spot to score his second goal of the match and reduce the deficit to one.

However, the Portuguese side could not find an equaliser before the final whistle, ensuring LASK secured a 3-2 victory and Sporting CP suffered a home defeat.
