Inter Milan monitor Cagliari forward Paul Mendy

Inter Milan are monitoring Senegalese forward Paul Mendy as they continue to track emerging talents in Italian football, according to reports in the Italian media.

The 19-year-old Cagliari striker has attracted attention following his progress from the club’s youth ranks to the first team, with Inter director Dario Baccin reportedly watching him in action during Cagliari’s match against Monza on 19 October.

Monza won the encounter 4-0, but the fixture also provided an opportunity for Inter to assess several young players, including Mendy, who has continued to build his reputation since moving to Italy.

Although no negotiations between Inter and Cagliari have been reported, the Milanese club are understood to be following the Senegalese forward’s development as they consider potential additions for the future.

Mendy’s impressive rise at Cagliari

Mendy joined Cagliari in 2025 after leaving Senegalese club ASC Bambey to continue his development in Italian football.

He made a strong impression with Cagliari’s Primavera side during the 2025-2026 season, scoring 15 goals in 29 appearances. Those performances helped him earn promotion to the senior team and brought him closer to regular involvement in Serie A.

The forward made his top-flight debut against Napoli on 20 March 2026, marking an important milestone in his development.

He followed that appearance with another notable performance against Atalanta on 27 April, when he scored twice in his first Serie A start.

The brace further highlighted his potential and strengthened his position as one of the young players making progress within Cagliari’s setup.

Senegalese forward attracting attention

Mendy has continued to gain experience with the senior team during the current campaign. According to the figures provided in the original report, he has recorded one goal and one assist in six Serie A appearances, alongside another goal in the Coppa Italia.

His performances have placed him on the radar of clubs looking for young attacking talent, with Inter among the sides reportedly keeping track of his progress.

The presence of Baccin at the Monza-Cagliari fixture on 19 October has added to reports of Inter’s interest. The club’s director was reportedly assessing several young prospects during the match, with Mendy among those attracting attention.

Inter have continued to monitor emerging players as they consider their long-term squad plans, and the Senegalese forward’s development at Cagliari has made him a player worth watching.

However, there is no indication at this stage that a formal approach has been made or that discussions between the two clubs have begun.

Cagliari hold long-term contract advantage

Mendy remains under contract with Cagliari until June 2031, giving the club a long-term agreement with the young forward.

That deal means any potential move would depend on developments between the clubs and the player’s future at Cagliari. For now, his immediate focus remains on continuing his progress in Italian football and making the most of his opportunities with the first team.

Having moved from ASC Bambey to Italy in 2025, Mendy has made significant strides in a relatively short period. His scoring record at youth level, followed by his early contributions in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, has helped raise his profile.

While Inter Milan’s reported interest has yet to develop into confirmed negotiations, Mendy’s performances will continue to attract attention as he looks to establish himself in senior football.
