Rulani Mokwena targets all titles as Pyramids extend winning run to 11 games
Pyramids FC head coach Rulani Mokwena says his side have the quality and determination to compete for every trophy this season after extending their winning streak to 11 matches.
The Egyptian club recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over Tala’ea El Gaish SC to maintain their perfect start under the South African tactician in all competitions.
The result also strengthened Pyramids’ position at the top of the league standings, with Mokwena now turning his attention to sustaining their impressive form for the remainder of the campaign.
Speaking after the victory, according to Yallakora, the 39-year-old praised his players for executing their training-ground preparations and adapting to the challenges posed by their opponents.
“We started this match extremely well, and scored two goals from a pattern we had trained on,” Mokwena said.
He acknowledged that Tala’ea El Gaish presented a tactical challenge after falling behind, with the opposition committing five players forward in an attempt to get back into the contest.
“Tala’ea El-Gaish are a strong team, and they tried to attack with five players after falling behind, and at that point we didn’t have enough time to adjust the tactical approach, and we just had to try to create numerical superiority, just as they were trying to,” he added.
Mokwena also highlighted the importance of unity within the squad, expressing satisfaction with the contributions of both his starting players and those introduced from the bench.
“We are a team that has good players, but more importantly, we have people with clean hearts and pure intentions, and that is a very good thing. Even those who came off the bench put in a good performance, so congratulations to everyone,” he said.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach stressed that every member of the squad has a role to play, explaining that his training sessions are designed to prepare the entire team rather than only those selected for matches.
“We trust all the players, and we have very good quality. When we train the team daily, we train all the players, not just the group that participates in matches,” he added.
With Pyramids enjoying a strong start to the season, Mokwena believes the club’s ambitions should extend to every competition in which they participate.
He said the players and the club’s management deserved the opportunity to challenge for silverware, while insisting that the team must approach its objectives with both confidence and humility.
“Pyramids are a big club, so they must compete for all titles. The management and the players deserve that, and it represents a big motivation for us. That is our destiny – to compete for all titles with humility and confidence,” he concluded.
Mokwena will now look to maintain Pyramids’ momentum as they pursue their ambitions on multiple fronts this season.
