Hakimi moves within one assist of Samuel Etoos Champions League record

Achraf Hakimi helped Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 at the Parc des Princes, moving to within one assist of Samuel Eto’o’s record for an African player in the UEFA Champions League.

The result came in the third round of the league phase and kept Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the table with nine points from three matches. Barcelona slipped to fifth on six points after suffering their first European defeat of the season.

Hakimi created Paris Saint-Germain’s fourth goal in the 86th minute, delivering an excellent cross for Fabian Ruiz to finish and complete the scoring.

According to statistics network Statsdufoot, the assist took Hakimi’s Champions League total to 19. That moved him level with Egypt international Mohamed Salah, who is currently a player at Trabzonspor and previously played for Liverpool.

Only former Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has recorded more assists by an African player in the competition. Eto’o leads the all-time list with 20, leaving Hakimi one assist away from joining him at the top.

Salah is not taking part in this season’s Champions League because Trabzonspor are competing in the UEFA Conference League.

Statsdufoot published the ranking on 20 October 2026:

20 – Samuel Eto’o, Cameroon 19 – Mohamed Salah, Egypt 19 – Achraf Hakimi, Morocco
