Paris Saint-Germain match Barcelona’s nine-year attacking landmark after Champions League rout
Paris Saint-Germain continued their outstanding start to the 2026-27 Champions League by beating Barcelona 4-2 at home on Tuesday and reaching 14 goals in their opening three matches.
The result, secured in a heavyweight third-round contest in the league phase, maintained the French side’s place among the competition’s most prolific teams. It followed a 6-1 victory against Slovakian club Slovan Bratislava and a 4-2 win over Manchester City.
According to Opta, Paris Saint-Germain’s 14 goals are the joint-highest total scored by a team after three matches in a single Champions League season. The only previous side to reach that figure was Arsenal in 2010-11.
The victory over Barcelona also extended an impressive scoring sequence at home. Paris Saint-Germain have now scored at least four goals in each of their past three Champions League matches at their own stadium.
That is a feat not achieved by any team since Barcelona scored four or more goals in four successive home matches between September 2016 and March 2017. Paris Saint-Germain have therefore matched a landmark associated with Barcelona nearly nine years later, although their current run stands at three matches.
OptaJean posted the figures on social media after Tuesday’s match, highlighting both the 14-goal total and the recent home scoring record.
The latest result gives Paris Saint-Germain further momentum in their European campaign and underlines their ability to turn home fixtures into high-scoring performances. Their three results so far have produced 14 goals, with the team scoring four or more in every match.
That attacking output places Paris Saint-Germain in a strong position at this early stage of the competition as they seek to remain in contention for the continental title. Their next challenge will be to maintain the same level of efficiency as the Champions League progresses and the opposition becomes stronger.
For now, the win over Barcelona represents another significant statement from Paris Saint-Germain. Their results against Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City and Barcelona have established them as one of the tournament’s leading attacking forces after the opening three rounds.
