Liverpool fight back from two-goal deficit to beat Villarreal 4-3 in Champions League thriller

Liverpool came from two goals behind to beat Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield on Tuesday and maintain their perfect start to this season’s UEFA Champions League.

The visitors made the stronger start, with Georges Mikautadze giving Villarreal the lead after four minutes before Sergi Cardona doubled their advantage in the 29th minute.

Liverpool responded before half-time. Alexis Mac Allister reduced the deficit in the 36th minute, and Ronald Araujo equalised in the second minute of added time at the end of the first half.

The Reds then completed their turnaround after the break. Mac Allister scored his second goal of the match in the 65th minute, with Florian Wirtz adding Liverpool’s fourth three minutes later.

Villarreal continued to threaten and Tani Oluwaseyi scored in the 87th minute, setting up a tense finish. Liverpool held on, however, to secure their third victory in three matches in the UEFA Champions League this season.
