Eliesse Ben Seghir resumes ball training in boost for Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen have received encouraging news regarding Eliesse Ben Seghir, with the Moroccan winger resuming ball training on the pitch as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury.
The 21-year-old has been sidelined after suffering another fitness setback, but his return to ball work represents a positive step towards regaining full fitness. However, he has yet to resume complete team training, and a return date remains uncertain.
Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes had previously indicated that the injury was not serious and expressed hope that the winger would not face another prolonged absence.
“He will not be out for long. This is not a serious injury, but it is frustrating because the problem has continued to recur. We hope this will be the last injury,” Rolfes said, according to BILD.
Ben Seghir has endured a frustrating spell since joining Leverkusen from Monaco in the summer of 2025, with repeated fitness problems disrupting his attempts to establish himself in the team.
The Morocco international signed a contract running until June 2030 and was brought in to add creativity, technical ability and attacking threat to Leverkusen’s forward line.
His gradual return to ball work offers hope that he can soon progress to full team training. Nevertheless, Leverkusen are expected to manage his recovery carefully to minimise the risk of another setback.
For head coach Carles Martinez, Ben Seghir’s eventual return would provide another attacking option during a demanding period of the season.
The club will continue assessing his progress in the coming days before determining when he can rejoin the squad for competitive action.
