Egypt coach Hossam Hassan and director Ibrahim Hassan to appeal FIFA bans
Head coach of Egypt Hossam Hassan and his brother Ibrahim Hassan has decided to appeal the suspensions imposed on them by FIFA following the incidents during Egypt’s 2026 World Cup round-of-16 match against Argentina.
The world football governing body imposed sanctions on Hassan and his brother, who serves as director to the national team, as well as midfielder Mostafa Zico, following tensions between the Egyptian technical team and match officials after the Pharaohs’ elimination from the tournament.
The trio have also reportedly been handed a combined financial penalty estimated at $60,000, in addition to the suspensions.
Speaking in an interview, Ibrahim Hassan made it clear that the Egyptian delegation would challenge FIFA’s disciplinary decision in an attempt to overturn the suspensions.
“We will appeal FIFA’s penalty of suspending us,” he said.
According to Ibrahim Hassan, he and his brother will bear the cost regarding the financial implication following the sanction.
“We are the ones who will bear the financial penalty imposed on us from our salaries, not the Football Association,” he explained.
The Egyptian team director’s comments underline the duo’s intention to challenge the sporting sanctions while accepting personal responsibility for the financial penalties.
The appeal will be crucial in determining whether the suspensions remain in place or are reduced, with Egypt awaiting the next steps in the disciplinary process.
For now, the three-match bans imposed on the Hassan brothers and Zico’s five-match suspension remain the subject of the planned challenge, with further developments expected as the appeal process progresses.
