Mahmoud Jihad suffers injury

Zamalek midfielder Mahmoud Jihad suffered an injury setback during his side’s 1-0 victory over Petrojet in the Egyptian Premier League after being forced off in the first half.

Jihad sustained the injury in the 35th minute of the seventh-round encounter at Borg El Arab Stadium, leaving the Zamalek technical bench with no option but to make an early substitution.

Mohamed Farag was introduced to replace the midfielder as Zamalek sought to maintain their advantage and secure maximum points from the encounter.

The nature and severity of Jihad’s injury were not immediately known, leaving uncertainty over his availability for the club’s upcoming matches.

The setback came at a crucial stage of the game, with Zamalek holding a narrow lead after Ahmed Sherif scored the only goal of the contest in the 26th minute.

Sherif’s effort proved decisive as the Cairo giants protected their advantage to claim a 1-0 win and collect all three points.

Despite the victory, Jihad’s early departure will be a concern for Zamalek, who will be hoping the midfielder has not sustained a serious injury that could keep him out of action for an extended period.

The club’s medical team is expected to assess his condition to determine the extent of the problem and establish whether further treatment will be required.

Zamalek entered the match sitting third in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 13 points from six games, having recorded four wins, one draw and one defeat.

While the victory provides a boost to their league campaign, the focus will now be on Jihad’s recovery, with the club awaiting further clarity on his condition ahead of their next assignment.
