Al Ahly have opened negotiations with Sporting to sign captain Hager Amer on loan for the Women’s Africa Club Championship.
The competition will be hosted by Al Ahly from 11 to 20 December, with 12 teams taking part.
The tournament had originally been scheduled to take place at Sporting’s venue, but the Alexandria club withdrew from its hosting commitments.
FilGoal.com understands that Al Ahly have begun talks with Sporting over a temporary deal for Amer after the player indicated she would welcome a move. She hopes the negotiations between the two clubs can be completed smoothly and that she can represent Al Ahly in the African competition for a second successive season.
Amer helped Al Ahly win the 2025 edition of the tournament, securing the first African title in the club’s history.
Al Ahly are expected to intensify discussions in the coming hours as they attempt to finalise the agreement.
The organising committee had previously confirmed that Al Ahly and Sporting would both progress directly to the 12-team final stage without having to play in the qualifying rounds.
Sporting are, however, expected to withdraw from the tournament because of the club’s elections.
Al Ahly have already added two players to their squad ahead of the competition.
They have reached an agreement with French player Kadiatou Sissoko, who has previously played in the WNBA as well as the French and Australian leagues.
The club have also completed the signing of Senegalese-American player Sierra Dillard, who won the Arab Championship with Sporting last month.
Al Ahly will enter the tournament aiming to retain the title and win it for a second time in their history, which would bring them level with Sporting.
For Amer, another triumph with Al Ahly would take her personal tally to four Women’s Africa Club Championship titles.
