Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany will miss the pre-match news conference before Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal because of a viral infection, raising doubts over whether he will be fit to lead the team.
Bayern face Arsenal in the third round of the Champions League league phase.
The German club said Serge Gnabry and assistant coach Aaron Danks would attend the media briefing instead.
“Before the important match against Arsenal, Serge Gnabry and assistant coach Aaron Danks will speak at the pre-match press conference,” Bayern said on their website.
“As for coach Vincent Kompany, he will miss the press conference because he has a viral infection and will take a period of rest on the advice of the doctors.”
The issue was also reported by French newspaper L’Equipe two days ago, which said Kompany was suffering from a viral infection.
Kompany was forced to leave the bench during Bayern’s match against Leipzig on Saturday after feeling unwell. The Belgian is also experiencing pain in his upper leg.
He is hoping to recover in time to be present for Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Arsenal.
