FIFA have handed suspensions to three members of Egypt’s national team following incidents during their World Cup clash against Argentina.

Egypt coaches Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan have each been banned for three matches, while forward Mostafa Ziko has received a five-match suspension.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is seeking clarification from FIFA over the disciplinary decisions before determining whether to lodge an appeal.

The sanctions could have a significant impact on Egypt’s preparations for their upcoming international fixtures, with the affected trio facing spells on the sidelines if the governing body upholds its ruling.

Should FIFA reject the EFA’s appeal, Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan will miss Egypt’s two matches against Malawi in November 2026, as well as their subsequent encounter against Angola in March 2027.

The absence of the two coaches would present a challenge for Egypt’s technical team as they prepare for the upcoming fixtures, particularly with the national side seeking to maintain stability ahead of their future international commitments.

Ziko faces a longer spell out of action following his five-match ban.

If the suspension stands, the player will miss both matches against Malawi in November, followed by Egypt’s fixtures against Angola and South Sudan in March 2027.

His fifth and final match of the suspension will be served in Egypt’s first fixture in whichever competition comes next, either the World Cup qualifiers or the Africa Cup of Nations.

The EFA has yet to decide on its next course of action, with the association first seeking an explanation from FIFA regarding the disciplinary measures.

The outcome of those discussions will determine whether Egypt pursue an appeal in an attempt to reduce or overturn the sanctions.

Until FIFA provides further clarification and the appeal process, if any, is concluded, the suspensions remain a potential setback for Egypt as they prepare for their upcoming international assignments.
