Mali striker Lassine Sinayoko backs Paris FC to challenge for Ligue top spot
Malian striker Lassine Sinayoko believes Paris FC can challenge for the top positions in Ligue 1 after his last-gasp penalty secured a victory over Stade Rennais on Sunday.
Paris FC sit third in the standings, level on points with leaders Olympique Lyonnais and second-placed Paris Saint-Germain, with the three sides separated by goal difference and goals scored.
Sinayoko’s late winner helped Paris FC recover from their defeat by FC Lorient last weekend and maintain their impressive start to the season.
“We can do big things,” the Malian striker said after the match. “How far can we go? This team can go right to the top. When we can play like that, we see that lots of great things can happen to us. Our objective is to win every match.”
Paris FC target European football
Paris FC have made a strong start under manager Liam Rosenior, who took charge over the summer.
His team have recorded four wins, two defeats and one draw, putting them on course to challenge for European qualification.
The club began the season aiming to compete for a place in European competition, but their current position puts them in contention for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Sinayoko’s confidence reflects the team’s ambitions after another important result against Rennes.
Rosenior urges caution despite strong start
Despite Paris FC’s position near the top of the table, Rosenior has warned his players against getting carried away by their early-season success.
“No one will remember in May where we were in October. The important thing for us is to focus on the next match, to not get carried away, to keep our feet on the ground,” said the former Chelsea and RC Strasbourg Alsace manager.
Paris FC will now turn their attention to a difficult away fixture against RC Lens as they look to maintain their momentum.
For Sinayoko and his teammates, the immediate priority remains winning their next match as they seek to turn their promising start into a sustained challenge at the top of French football.
