Lassine Sinayoko backs Paris FC to battle for top spot

Lassine Sinayoko believes Paris FC can challenge for the top spot in Ligue 1 after his last-gasp penalty secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Stade Rennais on Sunday.

The Malian striker converted from the penalty spot in injury time to hand Paris FC all three points, helping the newly promoted side bounce back from their defeat to FC Lorient last weekend.

Sinayoko’s decisive contribution lifted Paris FC to third place in the league standings, level on points with leaders Olympique Lyonnais, while Paris Saint-Germain occupy second place on goals scored.

The forward was delighted with the team’s performance and believes they have the quality to achieve big things this season, insisting that their ambition should go beyond simply competing for European qualification.

“We can do big things,” Sinayoko said after the match.

“How far can we go? This team can go right to the top. When we can play like that, we see that lots of great things can happen to us. Our objective is to win every match.”

The victory underlined Paris FC’s impressive start to the campaign under manager Liam Rosenior, who has recorded four wins, two defeats and one draw since taking charge over the summer.

Although the club initially targeted a challenge for European places, their current position has put them in contention for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Sinayoko’s late winner against Rennes could prove an important moment in their campaign as aris FC seek to establish themselves among the leading teams in France.

However, Rosenior has urged his players to remain focused and avoid becoming carried away by their early success, stressing that their position in October will count for little if they fail to maintain their standards throughout the season.

Paris FC will next face RC Lens away from home, with Sinayoko hoping to build on his match-winning performance and help his side maintain their push towards the top of the Ligue 1 standings.
