Antoine Semenyo sidelined for eight weeks

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has been ruled out of action for eight weeks after picking up a knee injury in the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Ipswich Town, head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed.

The Black Stars attacker suffered the injury late in the game as the Sky Blues cruised to a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town, extending their winning streak at the start of the 2026/27 campaign to seven games.

Semenyo made a substitute appearance as Manchester City triumphed over their opponents in the highly competitive clash at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. He replaced Belgian-Ghanaian forward Jeremy Doku in the 77th minute.

However, the victory was overshadowed by injury concerns involving several key players, including Semenyo, Erling Haaland, Nico O’Reilly, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic.

Providing an update, the former Chelsea manager disclosed that the other players are more or less okay, with Semenyo the only one facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“The rest are more or less okay. The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine,” Maresca said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash against AEK Athens.

“In the first moment we expected an even worse injury, so we were more worried.

“After yesterday’s scan we feel much better because it’s not so big like we expected.

“It could be eight weeks. Now in this moment the most important thing for him is his recovery. When he is back around December it will be like a new player in terms of energy.”

The Ghana international has continued to make an impact for the Premier League giants this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in nine appearances across competitions.
