Lazio manager Gennaro Gattuso says his side are not afraid to put opponents under pressure or defend man-to-man, but has warned them not to focus on the Serie A standings after their impressive victory over Juventus.
Lazio beat Juventus 3-0 in the seventh round of the league, extending their unbeaten start to the season and securing a result that moved them to second place.
“This is the first time I have beaten Juventus at their stadium since I started my coaching career,” Gattuso told DAZN.
The former Italy midfielder credited the club’s work in building a strong squad despite having limited financial resources in the transfer market.
“We have managed to create a real family here,” he said. “The club deserves credit. We did not have huge amounts of money for the transfer market, so we looked for players who were serious, determined and wanted to join us at any cost.
“Coaching these players is easy for me.”
Lazio have collected 19 points from their opening seven Serie A matches for the first time in the club’s history. They have won six games, drawn one and remain unbeaten.
However, Gattuso said his players must quickly turn their attention to their next fixture against Parma rather than becoming distracted by their position in the table.
“We must not look at the standings at the moment,” he said. “We will enjoy this wonderful win, but then we will put our heads down and return to work hard in preparation for the match against Parma.”
Gattuso also highlighted the intensity of Lazio’s approach, while acknowledging a concern that emerged during earlier matches against Milan and Venezia.
“We constantly press the opponent and we are not afraid to play man-to-man,” he added. “But the biggest concern was that against Milan and Venezia we were the dominant side before suddenly stopping.”
The result means Juventus have now gone four consecutive matches against Lazio without a win.
Juventus’ most recent victory over Lazio came in 2024, when they won 1-0 in the eighth round of the league.
Lazio’s 19 points leave them second in the table, with leaders Inter ahead on goal difference. Juventus remain on 11 points in eighth place.
