Kaizer Chiefs Maintain Perfect Diski Challenge Start as Orlando Pirates Draw Again
Kaizer Chiefs extended their perfect start to the DStv Diski Challenge season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Marumo Gallants, while defending champions Orlando Pirates were held to their third successive draw.
The result keeps Chiefs at the top of the table with 12 points from four matches. Vela Khumalo’s side lead second-placed Sekhukhune United by two points after another emphatic performance.
Keitumetse Lesia opened the scoring in the 13th minute, before Tashiel Rugunanan doubled the advantage with a sublime free-kick eight minutes before half-time.
Chiefs continued to control the match after the break, with Steven Mendes making it 3-0 in the 50th minute. Lesia then completed the rout by scoring his second goal of the afternoon.
Pirates, meanwhile, were unable to end their difficult run as they shared the points with newcomers Kruger United in a 1-1 draw.
The Buccaneers took the lead, but Kruger United responded to level the contest and held on to claim a point. It was Pirates’ third consecutive draw as they continue to struggle to match the form expected of the defending champions.
