Assane Diao set to spend time on sidelines

Senegalese winger Assane Diao is expected to spend around three weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a muscle injury during Como’s Champions League encounter against Feyenoord.

Medical examinations have confirmed that the 21-year-old has suffered a strain in the flexor muscle of his left leg, according to Sky Sports, bringing his recent progress to a temporary halt.

Diao picked up the injury during Como’s visit to Feyenoord at De Kuip in Rotterdam, where he had initially enjoyed a promising start to the contest by opening the scoring in the 18th minute.

The Senegal international found the back of the net to give Como an early advantage, but his impressive contribution was short-lived as he was forced off just five minutes later.

Diao was substituted in the 23rd minute after experiencing discomfort, leaving Como without one of their important attacking options for the remainder of the match.

The subsequent medical assessment has now clarified the extent of the problem, with the winger facing an estimated three-week absence as he begins his recovery.

The setback comes at an unfortunate time for the young forward, who had been making valuable contributions to Como’s campaign across competitions.

Diao has scored four goals and provided one assist this season, demonstrating his ability to influence matches in the final third. His pace, attacking movement and capacity to create problems for opposition defenders have made him an important option for the Italian side.

His expected absence will therefore be a concern for Como as they assess their attacking options for the coming fixtures. The club will hope to manage the situation carefully and avoid any complications that could prolong his recovery.

For Diao, the immediate priority will be to recover fully from the muscle strain before returning to training and competitive action. Although the initial prognosis points to approximately three weeks out, his actual return will depend on his progress during rehabilitation and subsequent medical assessments.

The Senegalese winger will be eager to regain his fitness and continue his contribution to Como’s campaign after a frustrating evening in Rotterdam, where his opening goal was overshadowed by an injury that could keep him out of action for several weeks.
