Emiliano Martinez carried off on stretcher after head injury in Chelsea’s match with Everton
Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was taken off on a stretcher after suffering a head injury during Chelsea’s Premier League match against Everton.
Martinez required about 10 minutes of treatment on the pitch following a heavy collision with Everton defender Jarred Branthwaite. The Chelsea goalkeeper fell to the ground before medical staff intervened.
He left the field conscious, with further details about his condition awaited.
Mike Penders replaced Martinez in the 75th minute as Chelsea continued their seventh-round Premier League fixture against Everton.
Chelsea were leading 2-0 at that stage, with both goals scored by Pedro Neto.
Neto opened the scoring in the 46th minute, shortly after the start of the second half, with a shot from inside the penalty area.
He added Chelsea’s second in the 90th minute. A free-kick struck the defensive wall before rebounding to Neto, who fired the ball into the Everton net.
