The opening goal by Joaquin Ibanez came early in the 5th minute, putting Ivory Coast on the back foot. In their pursuit of an equalizer, the Ivorians suffered another setback as Rodrigo Moreira scored Argentina’s second goal in the 33rd minute.
Although the Elephanteaux put up a commendable performance in the second half, they were unable to level the score. Their only breakthrough came in the 78th minute when Franck Kessiè converted a penalty awarded after an Argentine player handled the ball in the box.
With this defeat, Ivory Coast joins Morocco and Tunisia in exiting the competition. The African continent is now represented by only one team, Nigeria, who faces Uruguay in the remaining quarter-final match.
