Nasser Mansi says he was under pressure and did not intend to offend anyone with his celebration after scoring الزمالك’s decisive goal against الجيش الرواندي.
The striker addressed supporters in comments made through the Zamalekawy application, explaining the action that followed his 90th-minute goal.
“I had been suffering from pressure during the past period, and I did not intend to offend anyone after scoring the goal,” Mansi said.
He added: “I accept any decision taken by the club’s football management, and I hope to make you happy in the coming period.”
Mansi also congratulated الزمالك supporters after the result, saying: “Congratulations to the الزمالك fans. Praise be to God for the victory.”
Abdel Nasser Mohamed, الزمالك’s director of football, subsequently decided to impose a substantial financial punishment on Mansi because of his conduct after scoring.
The player later apologised to head coach Moataz Gamal, Abdel Nasser Mohamed and his team-mates during the squad’s evening meal after the match.
Mansi scored in the 90th minute after receiving an excellent pass from Isho. The goal was his second of the season, following his strike in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League against Djibouti champions AS Port.
The forward has now scored eight goals in African competitions. Five have come in the CAF Champions League, two in the Confederation Cup and one in the African Super Cup.
زمالك will qualify for the group stage if they win or draw the second leg against الجيش الرواندي. The return match is scheduled for Saturday, 24 October, at Cairo International Stadium.
The club are competing in the CAF Champions League for the first time after a three-season absence.
