Monaco send Ivorian youngster Oumar Konaté on season-long loan to Laval
AS Monaco forward Oumar Konaté has joined French Ligue 2 side Stade Lavallois on a season-long loan for the 2026–2027 campaign as the young Ivorian looks to gain valuable first-team experience and continue his development.
The 19-year-old is now set to spend the remainder of the season with Laval in France’s second tier. The temporary switch is expected to provide Konaté with an opportunity to secure regular playing time and further demonstrate his potential at senior level.
Konaté joined Monaco’s academy in the summer of 2025 from Ivorian club Sol FC, having attracted attention with his performances in his home country. Since arriving in France, the forward has continued his development within Monaco’s youth structure while working towards establishing himself in the club’s senior team.
The young striker took an important step forward earlier this season when he made his first appearances for Monaco’s first team in matches against Polish side Górnik Zabrze and Le Havre. Those outings offered him an opportunity to experience senior-level football and demonstrate his qualities in a competitive environment.
However, Konaté has not been included in Monaco’s first-team squad since those appearances, making a loan move a potentially important stage in his development. Despite his absence from the senior setup, he has continued to impress with the club’s Elite Group, scoring on several occasions and underlining his attacking potential.
His performances at youth level have maintained optimism around his prospects, but the next challenge will be translating that promise into consistent contributions in senior football. The move to Laval will give him a different competitive environment in which to develop his movement, finishing and overall understanding of the game.
For Laval, Konaté’s arrival offers an opportunity to add a young attacking prospect to their squad for the new campaign. The Ivorian will be hoping to adapt quickly to the demands of Ligue 2, earn the confidence of the coaching staff and compete for regular minutes throughout the season.
The loan also gives Monaco an opportunity to monitor the striker’s progress away from the club while allowing him to gain experience that could prove valuable to his long-term ambitions in the Principality.
With the 2026–2027 season ahead of him, Konaté will now be looking to make the most of his spell at Laval, establish himself in senior football and return to Monaco with greater experience and a stronger case for future first-team opportunities.
