Bournemouth make home bow in style
Bournemouth secured a second successive competition win after a dominant display at home.
Marcus Tavernier almost opened the scoring when his curling effort struck the outside of the post, but Evanilson put the hosts ahead with an excellent looping header shortly before the interval.
Sturm Graz came close to an equaliser after half-time, Jurgen Heil hitting the woodwork with a powerful effort just beyond the hour.
Bournemouth then took control late on. Substitute Rayan doubled their lead after turning in a corner, before Alvaro Rodriguez converted a penalty to complete a convincing victory.
Lyon were tested by a second-half Palace revival but held on for victory. Corentin Tolisso gave the French side the lead from close range after reacting quickest, and Ernest Nuamah made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time by finishing Keito Nakamura’s delivery.
Yeremy Pino pulled one back for Crystal Palace in the 50th minute following a well-worked set piece. Lyon restored their two-goal advantage when Pavel Sulc flicked the ball into the net, although Daichi Kamada reduced the deficit again in the 81st minute.
Palace pressed for an equaliser, with Chris Richards heading narrowly close, but Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greif made a crucial save to secure the points.
Sadiki completes Sunderland turnaround
Torreense took a spectacular lead in the 36th minute when defender Volnei Feltes advanced from just inside his own half and fired a powerful long-range strike past Sunderland.
The visitors increased the pressure after the break, but Torreense goalkeeper Lucas Paes denied Nilson Angulo with an impressive save.
Sunderland eventually levelled through Jules Ahoka, who headed Nordi Mukiele’s delivery down into the net. Granit Xhaka then set up Sadiki, whose superb half-volley in stoppage time completed the comeback.
Juventus also left it late, defeating Celta 2-1 after Randal Kolo Muani scored the decisive stoppage-time goal.
