Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib accepts Medhat Shalaby apology

Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib has accepted Medhat Shalaby’s apology and instructed the club’s legal adviser to withdraw all cases brought against the broadcaster.

Mohamed Osman, Al Ahly’s legal adviser, announced the decision in a post on Facebook.

“We appreciate and value the apology offered by Medhat Shalaby. Mahmoud El Khatib, president of Al Ahly, informed me that he accepted the apology and instructed me to withdraw all the cases filed against him,” Osman wrote.

Al Ahly had previously assigned Osman to take all necessary legal action against Shalaby.

Shalaby later appeared in a recorded video to apologise for comments he had made about El Khatib during his programme.

The broadcaster had claimed that El Khatib had failed to obtain a visa to enter the United States during the FIFA Club World Cup. El Khatib responded by explaining that his inability to secure the visa was linked to illness.

Shalaby also discussed delays in the construction of Al Ahly’s stadium and said the club’s treasury had been charged 120 million Egyptian pounds because of the failures of foreign coaches.

His programme on MBC مصر 2 was suspended for two weeks because of the comments.
