Arsenal extended their winning run in the league phase of the Champions League to 14 matches with a 3-0 victory over French side Lille at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners, runners-up in the previous edition, have scored 40 goals and conceded only six during that sequence. They are also the only team among those to have played twice in this season’s competition not to have conceded a goal.
Arsenal hosted Lille in the second round of matches, with the game kicking off at 22:00. Despite controlling the contest, Mikel Arteta’s side were unable to break the deadlock before half-time.
The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Jurrien Timber finished superbly after being picked out by a cross from Noni Madueke.
A minute later, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard were introduced as Arsenal looked to strengthen their grip on the match.
Eberechi Eze doubled the home side’s advantage in the 67th minute, converting from another cross by Saka.
Arsenal completed the scoring four minutes later. Saka combined with Havertz and Odegaard in a flowing passing move before adding the third goal.
The result gives Arteta’s team six points from their opening two European matches. They are third in the table, behind Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon only on goal difference.
Arsenal’s next Champions League fixture is against Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena next week.
Lille, meanwhile, remain 32nd in the standings without a point. Their next match is also scheduled for next week, when they will face Galatasaray.
