Simba SC moved six points clear at the top of the Tanzanian Premier League after Steve Barker’s side beat Mashujaa FC 6-1 on Tuesday evening.
The victory maintained Simba’s perfect record, with the club winning all eight of their league matches so far. It came only three days after their 2-1 victory over Young Africans SC in the Kariakoo Derby.
Simba took control against the fourth-placed side when Libasse Gueye opened the scoring after 15 minutes. Elie Mpanzu then doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute, giving Barker’s team a commanding lead at half-time.
The match was settled by three goals in eight minutes after the interval. A former Stellenbosch FC striker made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute, with Simba fielding three former Stellenbosch FC players in their line-up, alongside Anicet Oura and Ibraheem Jabaar.
Mpanzu scored again in the 59th minute to complete his brace, before Morice Abraham added a fifth goal two minutes later.
Mashujaa pulled one back in the 64th minute, but Simba restored their five-goal cushion when Toure scored four minutes later.
The result leaves Simba on 24 points from eight games and six points ahead of Manqoba Mngqithi’s Young Africans SC. Yanga’s league match was postponed and they have collected 18 points from seven matches.
