Venezia have parted company with head coach Giovanni Stroppa after losing all six of their opening Serie A matches, leaving the newly promoted side bottom of the table without a point.
The club confirmed the decision on Tuesday as Venezia continued to struggle on their return to Italy’s top division.
Stroppa was appointed in June last year and led the team to promotion from Serie B after they finished first in the second tier. However, the former AC Milan midfielder and Italy international was unable to reproduce that success in Serie A.
His departure follows a run of poor results for which he was unable to find a solution. Venezia thanked Stroppa and his coaching staff for their work during their time at the club.
“The club would like to thank Giovanni Stroppa and his staff for their work, professionalism, dedication and commitment throughout their time with the arancioneroverde,” Venezia said.
Italian media reports have identified Paolo Zanetti and Davide Nicola as potential replacements, although Venezia have not yet named a successor.
The club’s next match will bring an immediate test for whoever takes charge. Eighth-placed Napoli are due to visit on Saturday, with Venezia seeking to begin recovering from their difficult start.
