The UEMOA tournament in Abidjan witnessed an unusual situation on Thursday during the last matches of group B. Niger was scheduled to face Benin, and Guinea Bissau was set to play against Senegal. However, Mena, the Niger team, refused to participate in the match against Ecureuils (Benin) in protest against the awarding of three points to Senegal after age fraud was revealed in four of its players, who were subsequently expelled.
Despite Benin appearing on the field, the match did not take place due to the refusal of Niger. This situation allowed Benin to secure seven points and a place in the final.
In the Senegal vs. Guinea Bissau match, Senegal had to wait for the outcome to determine their standing. Despite the 3 points awarded on the green carpet, Senegal could overtake Benin with a 5-0 victory. However, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, ensuring that Benin would face Burkina Faso in the final of the 2013 UEMOA tournament on Saturday.
Earlier in the week, Burkina Faso qualified for the final after a 2-2 draw against Ivory Coast and a 1-1 draw between Togo and Mali.
