Kaizer Chiefs faces injury setbacks

Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a major injury setback ahead of their return to Premiership action, with Brandon Petersen, Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Langelihle Phili set to miss Tuesday night’s clash against Stellenbosch FC.

The Soweto giants will be without the quartet as they prepare to resume their league campaign, with the four players currently sidelined by different injuries.

Their absence presents a selection challenge for the technical team, especially as Chiefs look to maintain their momentum and continue building consistency in the league. The injuries also come at a time when the club will be keen to make a strong return to competitive action against a Stellenbosch side expected to provide a stern test.

Maboe’s absence will be particularly notable, having featured in all eight of Chiefs’ matches this season. His consistency has made him an important figure in the team, and his unavailability leaves the technical team with the task of finding a suitable replacement for the encounter.

Goalkeeper Petersen is also unavailable as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. Although he has returned to individual training, he has yet to make a full return to team training, meaning Chiefs will have to continue without him for the time being.

The club has also confirmed that Maboe is nursing an ankle injury, while Ndlovu and Phili remain long-term absentees. Their continued absence further limits the options available to the coaching staff as the team prepares for the demanding schedule ahead.

“Chiefs still have four major injury concerns, with Brandon Petersen returning to individual training recovering a knee injury, Lebohang Maboe – who has played in all eight of Chiefs’ games this season – nursing an ankle injury, while Phili and Siphesihle Ndlovu remain long term absentees,” the club said in a statement.

Petersen’s return to individual training offers some encouragement regarding his recovery, although the club has not indicated when he could be available for selection. Chiefs will continue to monitor the progress of their injured players as they work towards regaining full fitness.

The clash against Stellenbosch FC will therefore provide an important test of the depth of the Chiefs squad, with the technical team needing to make adjustments to compensate for the absence of four players.

With Maboe having featured in every match so far this season, and Petersen, Ndlovu and Phili also unavailable, attention will be on how Chiefs reorganise their lineup for the encounter.

Kaizer Chiefs will hope the available players can step up in the absence of their injured teammates and deliver a positive result against Stellenbosch as they look to get their Betway Premiership campaign back on track.
