Musiala faces longer Bayern Munich recovery as club remain confident over his future

Jamal Musiala is not expected to return to action soon as the Bayern Munich forward continues his recovery from another thigh injury.

The 23-year-old Germany international had been gradually working his way back towards full fitness after suffering a serious injury at the Club World Cup, where he fractured his fibula and was sidelined for an extended period.

His progress was interrupted by a further setback which raised concerns about his condition. Musiala lost consciousness twice during Bayern’s pre-season friendly matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim, played within the space of four days.

Musiala later explained his diagnosis in a statement on Instagram.

“I was diagnosed with brief and temporary absence seizures caused by a neurological disorder, but they are treatable,” he said.

Despite the latest difficulties, Bayern remain confident that Musiala can recover and rediscover the form that established him as one of Europe’s most promising attacking talents.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has spoken about the midfielder’s potential and the hopes surrounding his recovery in an interview with Bild, reported by Yahoo Sports.

“I think the whole country hopes that Jamal can reach the level he was at before his serious injury at the Club World Cup,” Hainer said. “He was on his way to becoming one of the best players in the world.”

Bayern confident over Musiala’s future

Questions have been raised about Musiala’s health, his latest injury problems and whether he can continue his career at the highest level. Hainer sought to reassure Bayern supporters, saying the club had received positive guidance from medical specialists.

“We are aware of Jamal’s condition,” he said. “The specialists have assured us that he can play football at the highest level despite this illness.”

Hainer also pointed to Musiala’s performances before his latest setback as evidence that the player had been moving in the right direction.

“We saw before the international break that he was on his way to becoming the old Jamal again,” he said. “We are not worried.”

Bayern will nevertheless have to remain patient while Musiala continues along his recovery programme. His return remains some way off, according to the same report, with the club focused on allowing him the time needed to regain his fitness.

Bayern Munich are due to face Leipzig in the Bundesliga on 17 October 2026.
