Gordon gives Barcelona record-breaking start as Gabriel Jesus continues Camp Nou scoring run
Anthony Gordon scored after just 77 seconds to give Barcelona the fastest La Liga goal they have recorded since May 2023, before Gabriel Jesus added a second in a 2-0 victory over Getafe at Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday.
The match was Barcelona’s eighth of the La Liga season, and Gordon made an immediate impact. The English forward carried the ball into the visitors’ half, evaded several challenges and struck a powerful effort from just outside the penalty area that found the net.
According to football statistics account MisterChip, Gordon’s goal was Barcelona’s quickest in La Liga since 28 May 2023. On that occasion, Ansu Fati scored against Mallorca after 48 seconds.
MisterChip also noted that no English player had scored so early in a La Liga match since 10 February 1988, when Gary Lineker found the net for Barcelona against Espanyol after only 11 seconds.
Gordon’s finish arrived officially in the second minute, although the recorded time was 77 seconds, giving Barcelona an early advantage against Getafe.
Gabriel Jesus doubled the home side’s lead in the 30th minute, continuing an impressive scoring record at Camp Nou since joining Barcelona.
MisterChip said Jesus had played only 58 minutes for Barcelona at the stadium but had already scored three goals there. That gives the Brazilian an average of one goal every 19 minutes on home soil so far.
The two-goal opening allowed Barcelona to control the match after Gordon’s early breakthrough, with Jesus’ finish further strengthening their position during the eighth round of the league campaign.
