French-Congolese Rudy Matondo set for Paris FC contract extension despite reduced playing time

Paris FC midfielder Rudy Matondo is expected to extend his contract until 2030, despite seeing his playing time reduced under new manager Liam Rosenior this season.

According to French newspaper L’Équipe, the 18-year-old is close to agreeing a two-year extension to his current deal, which runs until 2028.

The proposed agreement represents a significant show of confidence in Matondo, who remains one of the most promising young players at the French club despite his reduced involvement in recent months.

Born in France, Matondo is of Congolese descent from the Republic of the Congo and has attracted attention for his performances since joining Paris FC.

Matondo emerged as a key player last season

Paris FC signed the midfielder from AJ Auxerre for €17 million last February, with the teenager quickly establishing himself as an important member of the first team.

Under former manager Antoine Kombouaré, Matondo made an immediate impression, recording eight starts and scoring twice in 11 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

His ability to break into the senior side at such a young age underlined his potential and strengthened expectations that he could develop into a key figure in the club’s long-term plans.

However, the midfielder has found opportunities harder to come by since Rosenior took charge of Paris FC this summer.

After the first five matchdays of the current campaign, Matondo had managed just one start and accumulated 149 minutes of playing time, a significant reduction from his involvement last season.

Teenage midfielder remains patient

The change in circumstances has reportedly been difficult for the Évry-Courcouronnes native, who had enjoyed a more prominent role under Kombouaré.

Nevertheless, Matondo is understood to be accepting the situation and recognises that he still has considerable room for improvement as he continues his development.

His willingness to remain patient could prove important as he seeks to regain a regular place in Rosenior’s plans.

At 18, the midfielder has time to develop his game and compete for more opportunities, although the challenge will be to turn his potential into consistent performances at senior level.

Paris FC move to secure his future

The proposed extension would keep Matondo at Paris FC until 2030, giving the club greater security over the future of a player it invested €17 million to sign from Auxerre.

While his immediate role has diminished, the expected renewal suggests Paris FC remain committed to his development.
