Bayern Munich consider Jules Kounde as Sacha Boey replacement
Jules Kounde could emerge as a transfer target for Bayern Munich as the Barcelona defender faces increased competition for his place under Hansi Flick.
The France international has lost some of his guaranteed starting status at Barcelona, where Eric Garcia, Xavi Espart and Gerard Martin are among the players competing for defensive positions. He also faces competition from Pierre Kalulu for the right-back role with the French national team.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his place, Kounde has maintained a professional attitude, and Flick continues to value his versatility. However, the situation has reportedly attracted interest from several major European clubs.
According to journalist Christian Falk, Bayern Munich are monitoring Kounde’s situation and could consider signing the Frenchman if they decide to sell Sacha Boey. The German champions would reportedly look to reinvest the proceeds from Boey’s departure in a replacement.
Chelsea remain another potential destination. Journalist Matteo Moretto has reported that the Premier League club continue to follow Kounde, although the defender is reportedly keen to remain at Barcelona and fight for his position.
Kounde recently addressed his reduced role, acknowledging that his performances last season fell below his own expectations.
“It’s the coach’s choice, and it’s also a consequence of last season. Last season fell well below my standards; it’s a challenge I gladly accept. It’s up to me to rediscover my best form, when I’m at my best, I can play in that position.”
The 27-year-old extended his Barcelona contract in 2025, with his current deal running until 2030. A move remains speculative as he focuses on regaining his place in Flick’s starting lineup.
