The Turkish Football Federation has dismissed Turkey manager Vincenzo Montella after the team suffered four consecutive defeats in the Nations League during the latest international break.
Turkey’s supporters had called for the Italian coach to resign following a run of losses against France, Italy twice and Belgium.
The four-match sequence began with a 1-0 defeat by France in the opening round. Turkey were then heavily beaten 4-1 by Italy in the second round before losing 3-0 to Belgium.
Their international break ended with another defeat by Italy, this time by a 3-1 scoreline.
The Turkish Football Federation’s decision had previously been reported by Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, which said the governing body’s board had decided to part company with Montella.
Montella took charge of Turkey in September 2023. He had agreed a contract extension in June 2025 that was intended to keep him in the role until Euro 2028.
During his time as manager, Montella led Turkey in 40 matches. The team won 21 of those games, lost 14 and drew five.
Turkey scored 66 goals under the Italian, while conceding 58.
French newspaper L’Equipe reported that Arda Turan, the manager of Shakhtar Donetsk, is a strong candidate to replace Montella as Turkey manager.
