Al Ahly have not discussed bringing Mali international Aliou Dieng back to the club, despite reports that the midfielder could leave Valencia during the winter transfer window.

A source at the Egyptian club told FilGoal.com that there was no question over Dieng’s quality, but said a return had not been considered.

“Aliou Dieng is a great player who made a significant history with Al Ahly. There is no dispute over his ability, and he would be an addition to any team, but this matter has not been discussed in the first place,” the source said.

The source added that any decision to sign a player depended on several factors, including the head coach’s requirements and priorities, as well as the club’s wage structure.

“Any signing is subject to several considerations, including the manager’s demands and priorities, in addition to the salary ceiling,” the source said.

They also said it would be inappropriate to discuss or comment on a player who remains under contract with another club.

“It is also not right to discuss or comment on a player who is still contracted to his club, out of respect for all parties,” the source added.

Dieng joined Valencia at the start of the current season on a free transfer after his contract with Al Ahly expired.

The midfielder originally moved to Al Ahly from MC Alger in the summer of 2019. His time at the club lasted seven years, although it included a season-long loan spell with Saudi Arabian side Al-Kholood between 2024 and 2025.

Across six seasons with Al Ahly, Dieng made 250 appearances in all competitions and won 16 trophies.

He contributed to 19 goals during that period, scoring eight and providing 11 assists.
