Jamal Musiala to miss Bayern Munich’s Augsburg match as Vincent Kompany backs injury recovery
Jamal Musiala will miss Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga meeting with FC Augsburg on Saturday, but head coach Vincent Kompany believes the Germany international will overcome his latest injury setback and return to his best form.
Musiala suffered a thigh injury while on international duty and has since resumed individual training. However, Bayern have not given a date for the attacking midfielder’s return.
The 23-year-old already endured a difficult start to the season after two collapses during pre-season linked to absence seizures. He had worked his way back to full fitness before suffering another setback.
Kompany, who dealt with numerous injuries during his own playing career, said Musiala had the character required to recover again.
“I can relate to his story of setbacks. I’ve experienced that often in my own career. Coming back from that is a great strength,” Kompany said on Friday.
The Bayern coach also expressed his confidence that Musiala would enjoy many more successful years in football.
“I hope he can enjoy playing football again in the coming years, and I believe he will,” he added.
“Jamal has always shown that strength. In every situation, he knows how to fight his way back, and he always comes back.”
Musiala’s latest absence deprives Bayern of an attacking player whose goals have regularly lifted both his team-mates and the club’s supporters.
Kompany said the sense of excitement created when Musiala scores would return once the midfielder was back on the pitch.
“We’ve seen how happy the team and fans are when he scores a goal. We’ll experience those moments again,” he said.
