Cristiano Ronaldo advised to retire by family, says Portuguese journalist

Cristiano Ronaldo has been advised by his family to retire from football and bring his career to a quiet conclusion, according to Portuguese journalist Luis Villar.

The captain of Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr has traditionally received strong support from his family, helping him continue to perform despite the criticism he has often faced. However, Villar says Ronaldo is now dealing with a new crisis in his professional career.

The issue concerns Jorge Jesus, who recently took charge of Portugal. According to a statement from Ronaldo, the manager decided to leave him out of participation and failed to honour a promise made to him.

Speaking to Al Arabiya, Villar said: “Ronaldo’s family advised him this time to retire and end his journey calmly.”

The journalist added that Ronaldo had not accepted that his time in football might be coming to an end.

“But at the same time, Ronaldo is unable to realise that his time in football has ended,” Villar said. “He must also recognise his value because he is a symbol of Portugal.”

Villar also claimed that public opinion believed Ronaldo’s pride and personal demands were influencing his decisions, including his determination to remain in the game despite a decline in his technical and physical level.

“The public believes that his ego and personal demands are pushing him to make these bad decisions, including continuing to play despite the decline in his technical and physical performance,” he said.
