Malibongwe Khoza attracting European interest as Mamelodi Sundowns face January transfer pressure

Malibongwe Khoza is emerging as one of the most sought-after players at Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the next winter transfer window, with clubs in Belgium, Austria and France monitoring the South Africa international.

The central defender has gradually established himself in the Sundowns defence and his progress has drawn attention from several European sides. The South African club could therefore receive a number of approaches for the young defender when the market reopens.

La Gantoise are understood to be among the clubs most closely following Khoza’s situation. The Belgian side are looking to strengthen their defence after one of their established players suffered a lengthy absence.

According to transfer specialist Ekrem Konur, La Gantoise have placed Khoza on their list of priorities and could make an approach as soon as the winter transfer window opens.

Interest in the defender is not limited to Belgium. Austrian club SV Ried and FC Nantes, who play in Ligue 2, are also reported to be monitoring his performances for both Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.

Khoza’s tall, athletic profile at centre-back is understood to have appealed to a number of scouts, while his growing role at club level has increased his visibility across the European market.

He remains under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, leaving the club in a strong negotiating position should formal offers arrive. However, the continued rise in his reputation could make discussions more difficult if several interested clubs decide to compete for his signature.

Transfermarkt currently estimates Khoza’s market value at 850 000 euros. That figure could change as more clubs express an interest in the South African defender.

La Gantoise are next due to play their eighth Belgian league match against Zulte Waregem. The listed betting odds for the fixture are 2.10 for a La Gantoise victory, 3.15 for a draw and 2.70 for a Zulte Waregem win.
