Riyad Mahrez bids farewell to Al Ahli

Algerian star Riyad Mahrez has officially closed the chapter on his spell with Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli after leaving the club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract in July.

The 35-year-old winger took the opportunity to send an emotional farewell message to the club, expressing his gratitude to the players, coaches, staff and supporters who were part of his journey in Saudi Arabia.

Mahrez admitted that his time at Al Ahli represented an important chapter in both his professional career and personal life, while highlighting the people he met during his spell with the club.

“As you already know, my time at the club is coming to an end, but I didn’t want to leave without expressing my respect and gratitude to you all. It has been a special chapter in my career and in my life. I’ve met some incredible people who are helping to shape the future of football in Saudi Arabia.”

The former Manchester City star also reflected proudly on his time wearing the Al Ahli shirt, particularly the success he enjoyed with the club and the opportunity to celebrate trophies alongside his teammates.

“I’m proud to have worn these colours and to have shared the joy of winning trophies together. It was an honour to represent this club.”

Mahrez went on to thank the club’s hierarchy, coaching staff, backroom personnel and his teammates for their support throughout his time in Saudi Arabia.

“To the board of directors, the coaching staff, everyone working behind the scenes and all my team-mates, thank you for everything. Thank you for your support every day. I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey as much as I have. See you next time.”

Mahrez joined Al Ahli after leaving Manchester City and became one of the biggest names to move to the Saudi Pro League during its major recruitment drive.

Having now brought his Al Ahli chapter to an end, the Algeria international has joined Qatari outfit Al-Shamal as a free agent.
