Egypt star Omar Marmoush’s position under threat at Tottenham
Egypt star Omar Marmoush could see his position at Tottenham come under threat if the Premier League club succeeds in signing Espanyol striker Roberto Fernández during the January transfer window.
Tottenham are reportedly intensifying their efforts to land Fernández after being impressed by the Spaniard’s outstanding start to the season, with manager Roberto De Zerbi keen to add another attacking option to his squad.
Fernández has scored six goals in seven appearances for Espanyol this season, building on the seven goals he registered last campaign. His impressive form has also earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team.
The striker’s emergence has reportedly convinced Tottenham to make him one of their leading targets as De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attack and improve the club’s fortunes in the Premier League.
Marmoush only joined Tottenham during the summer transfer window, but the possible arrival of Fernández could force the Egyptian to fight for his preferred position.
Rather than being used as the main striker, Marmoush could be moved into a deeper attacking role or deployed from the left, where he would have the freedom to cut inside and make runs into dangerous areas.
The potential signing of Fernández would therefore provide De Zerbi with another natural centre-forward while giving the Tottenham boss greater flexibility in how he uses Marmoush.
For the Egyptian, the situation could present a new challenge just months after arriving at the club, with his versatility potentially becoming crucial to securing a regular place in De Zerbi’s starting XI.
